Your First Visit With Our Office

Here at Sycamore Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry, we believe your first appointment with us is the most important one you’ll have. This is our chance to meet and get to know each other a bit better, listen to the concerns you have about your oral health, and determine if treatment is necessary. As exciting as it is to take the first step towards a healthier mouth, it’s normal to feel a little nervous as well. This is especially true if you aren’t sure what to expect from the orthodontic process. The good news is, we go out of our way to make this visit a positive and stress-free experience! Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from your first visit with Dr. B and our talented team

Your orthodontic evaluation

When you arrive for your consultation, you’ll be warmly greeted by our treatment coordinator and front desk team. We’ll give you a brief tour of the office to help you feel more comfortable with your surroundings, then take the appropriate diagnostic records. These will typically include a series of intra- and extraoral photos along with a panoramic X-ray, which allows us to get a good look at your teeth, facial features, and jaw relationship. This also helps us determine the position of all the erupted and unerupted teeth.

Once we’ve completed your diagnostic records, you’ll be introduced to Dr. B! After a brief chat, he will perform a painless but thorough oral examination. He’ll use the information we have collected to make his initial diagnosis and create a customized treatment plan just for you. It’s important to us that you understand each aspect of your diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan, so you can expect your initial visit to last about an hour. This gives us plenty of time to perform the exam and discuss your diagnosis. We’ll also be able to answer any questions you have and go over several topics, including:

  • if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is recommended
  • what treatment options are available to you
  • an estimate of how long we expect treatment to take
  • the total investment required for your new smile
  • our payment or financing options
  • how we handle dental insurance claims and what providers we accept

Your smile is as unique as you are, and that’s why we’ll provide you with a customized treatment plan built around your specific needs. This personalized approach increases overall satisfaction and ensures exceptional results.

Investing in a healthier smile

Once you’ve decided on a treatment plan with your Dr. B, we’ll outline the total investment needed for your new smile. Every case is different, so there’s no “one size fits all” answer for how much treatment will cost. The total will depend on your specific needs and the treatment plan that’s been designed for you. Don’t worry—you’ll never encounter any hidden fees with our practice! We’ll also make sure you understand everything included in your plan before moving forward.

We believe everyone deserves a healthy smile! Your treatment fee will be based on your treatment difficulty, expected treatment time, and the orthodontic appliances required. Our treatment coordinator will present you with this total and outline the payment options available to you, including no-interest in-office financing if needed.

What happens next?

If treatment is recommended and you’re ready to begin with braces or clear aligner treatment, we can obtain a 3D scan of your teeth at the same time so we can begin designing your new smile! Any additional X-rays we need can be taken at this time, as well.

Depending on the type of appliance you have, we’ll want to see you for follow-up visits every 4-8 weeks or so. During these check-ups, Dr. B will assess your progress and observe your teeth to make sure they’re moving the way we want them to. If you’re wearing braces, he’ll make any necessary adjustments to them and may also change the wire out.

These visits are an essential part of your treatment plan, and we do our best to schedule them for a day and time that’s convenient for you. If you can’t make your appointment or will be running late for any reason, we do ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule you for another day. This allows our office to continue running smoothly and keeps your treatment plan progressing as it should be.
