The Beginning of
Your Journey

At Sycamore Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry, our goal is to make your first appointment as comfortable as possible and we do believe this appointment is the most important one.

What to Expect

Doctor’s offices can be intimidating, especially to younger children. We want to assure you that your experience at Sycamore Orthodontics will be painless and fun.

During your first appointment at Sycamore Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry, our primary goal is to determine if you are ready for treatment, address any questions or concerns you might have, and develop a preliminary personalized treatment plan to address your needs.

You will be warmly greeted by our treatment coordinator and front desk team. After providing a tour of the office and completing all the necessary paperwork, appropriate diagnostic records will be taken.

Most patients will require a series of intra- and extraoral photos and a panoramic X-ray. These records are needed to visualize your teeth, facial features, and jaw relationship. X-rays can help us determine the position of all erupted and unerupted teeth.

After reviewing these records with the treatment coordinator, Dr. B will join you in the consultation room to examine your smile and discuss your individualized treatment plan and treatment options that are available to you.

We will discuss every aspect of your smile in full detail and propose a solution to get the improvement you want. Sometimes there are various options to achieve the desired result (braces vs Invisalign). Dr. Barysenka will discuss every detail and educate you every step of the way so you can make the most informed decision.

Our treatment coordinator and Dr. Barysenka will explain the treatment process to you and walk you through the next steps and appointments that will follow.

Based on your treatment difficulty, expected treatment time, and appliances needed, our treatment coordinator will present you with the treatment fees and payment options, including no-interest in-office financing if needed.

At the end of the appointment or same day via email, you will receive a summary of findings and proposed solutions that were discussed during the consultation so you can further review it at home and discuss it with your loved ones involved in the decision-making process.

What Comes Next

If you or your child are ready for treatment, impressions will be taken to help Dr. B determine an individualized treatment plan.

If you are ready to begin Invisalign treatment, we will obtain a 3D scan of your teeth at the same appointment so we can start designing your new smile. Any additional X-rays can be taken at this time, as well.

Every mouth is different, and every patient needs a unique approach to orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Barysenka makes sure his patients and their parents are completely comfortable and know what to expect at all times.

When we get all your questions answered and you are ready to move forward, we'll help you with scheduling the next appointment to start your treatment.

To Help You Prepare

Your initial consultation appointment will take approximately 1 hour. When you are ready to get your treatment started, the appliance placement appointment is the longest out of your orthodontic treatment journey and may take between 1.5-2 hours.

Most routine appointments average 15 to 30 minutes. We offer before- and after-school appointments for our patients, Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 4 pm. Any appointments longer than 30 minutes are most often scheduled between 9 am and 2 pm.

Typically, you will need to see Dr. Barysenka every six to ten weeks to determine how your treatment is progressing and to make adjustments if needed. Orthodontic treatment is a partnership between the doctor and the patient — while the doctor can set a patient up for success, it is up to the individual to follow through with instructions. Whether you need braces or other treatment, you want to make the most of it!
